Tiffany Montgomery, a 34-year-old White/Caucasian female from the Dover, Delaware area, was killed in the early morning hours of February 10, 2020, after gunfire erupted on the 200 block of West Reed Street in downtown Dover. Police were called to the area at about 1:54 a.m. for reports of multiple shots being fired, and when officers arrived they found a chaotic scene with several people struck by gunfire.
Montgomery had been shot in the upper body and died from her injuries.
The shooting did not appear to involve only one victim. Officers initially found a 27-year-old woman wounded in the foot, a 39-year-old man wounded in the shoulder, and a 45-year-old man injured in the leg, along with Montgomery, who was deceased at the scene. As the investigation continued, police identified a fifth victim, a 42-year-old man who had been shot twice, once in the shoulder and once in the ear, but refused medical treatment. The surviving victims’ injuries were described as not life-threatening.
The violence unfolded during what police later described as a downtown gathering, turning a late-night scene on Reed Street into a homicide investigation. Detectives worked the block, sought witnesses, and asked the public for information, but the early public releases did not identify a suspect, motive, or the number of shooters involved. Montgomery’s death was later remembered not only as a shooting death, but as a cold case still in need of answers.
In May 2024, more than four years after Montgomery was killed, Dover Police again appealed to the public for help, indicating that the search for answers in her homicide was continuing. Publicly available reports did not identify any arrests, suspects, charges, trial proceedings, or convictions connected to her death. Police continued to ask anyone with information to contact the Dover Police Department, and tips were also accepted through Delaware Crime Stoppers with the possibility of a cash reward for information leading to an arrest.
