Malik X. Miller, a 30-year-old Black male from Wilmington, was killed in the early morning hours of Friday, October 2, 2020, after gunfire broke out outside the Casablanca Restaurant at 4010 North DuPont Highway in New Castle, Delaware. Delaware State Police said troopers were called to the restaurant parking lot at about 1:02 a.m., where they found one wounded man, later identified as 28-year-old Tymir Mason, also of Wilmington, suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.
As
investigators began working the scene, they learned that a second wounded man had also been shot in the same incident. That man was Malik X. Miller. Unlike Mason, Miller was not found by troopers in the parking lot; police said he had been taken away from the scene by private vehicle and transported to a nearby hospital. He had also been shot in the upper body, and despite making it to the hospital, he was pronounced dead there.
The violence left two Wilmington men dead from the same shooting incident. Police later identified the victims as Miller and Mason, and the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit took over the investigation. An official unsolved homicide listing for Miller later described him as having been involved in a shootout at the North DuPont Highway location, struck by gunfire, and transported to the hospital where he died.
In the immediate aftermath, the scene outside Casablanca became an active investigation area. One northbound lane of North DuPont Highway was temporarily closed between Memorial Drive and I-495 while police processed the area. Reporting from the scene described evidence markers on the ground and the area taped off as investigators tried to determine what led to the shooting.
No publicly available official source reviewed identified a suspect by name, and no arrest, charge, trial, or conviction was found in connection with Miller's death. Delaware State Police continued to list the case as an unsolved homicide and asked anyone with information to contact the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit or Delaware Crime Stoppers.
