Robert Wright, a 36-year-old Black / African American male from New Castle, Delaware, was killed in the early morning hours of December 14, 2020, after gunfire drew New Castle County police to the unit block of Bristol Way in the Kingston Court community. Officers were dispatched at about 5:02 a.m. for a report of a shooting that had just occurred, and when they arrived they found Wright suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency responders tried to save him at the scene.
Officers and other first responders administered first aid, but Wright could not be revived and was pronounced dead where he was found. His death came during a violent stretch in New Castle County, with police publicly describing several fatal shootings that had taken place within days of one another.
Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police Criminal Investigations Unit took over the case shortly after the shooting. At the time, police said the investigation was still in its early stages and asked the community for help identifying whoever was responsible. Authorities urged anyone with information to contact Detective Mancuso or the department’s non-emergency line, and a standing cash reward was offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
