Dmajah Tickles was a 19-year-old Black/African American male and New Castle resident whose life ended on the night of May 19, 2021, after gunfire broke out in Wilmington, Delaware. Authorities later said the shooting happened in the 2300 block of Carter Street at about 9:10 p.m., turning an ordinary Wednesday night into the start of a homicide investigation that would stretch for years.
In the days after his death, those who knew him prepared to say goodbye to someone remembered by the
nickname “Man Man.” His obituary listed his dates as December 24, 2001, to May 19, 2021, and announced a public viewing and Celebration of Life on May 29, 2021, at New Destiny Fellowship in Wilmington. The service marked the family's public farewell while investigators continued working to determine who was responsible for the shooting.
The case eventually led police to Tramont Mitchell, a Newark man. After an investigation by the Wilmington Police Department, Mitchell was arrested at his home in Newark on March 2, 2022. Prosecutors said Mitchell fatally shot Tickles on Carter Street, and the criminal case moved forward with charges that included first-degree murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and weapons charges tied to Mitchell's status as a person prohibited from having a firearm.
In 2024, a Delaware Superior Court jury convicted Mitchell of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. A judge later convicted him on a severed charge of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited. Those findings made Mitchell legally responsible for the killing and brought the case to its sentencing stage.
On February 13, 2026, nearly five years after the shooting, Mitchell was sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 50 years. The sentence closed the prosecution with a severe punishment for the fatal shooting on Carter Street, leaving the record of the case centered on a young life lost in Wilmington and a Newark man convicted and imprisoned for the murder.
