Christopher Smith, 14, a male of Black/African American ethnicity, was shot on the evening of June 22, 2021, on the 500 block of West 35th Street in Wilmington, Delaware. Neighbors described a black car pulling up and the sharp crack of four or five shots before the street fell quiet again. A candle soon marked the spot where the teenager collapsed, just a few hundred yards from P.S. duPont Middle School, in a neighborhood stunned by the speed and brazenness of the violence.
