Aaron Reid, a 44-year-old Black/African American male, was killed after gunfire erupted late on July 11, 2023, in Wilmington, Delaware. Police were called shortly after 11:30 p.m. to the 100 block of North Harrison Street, in the city's Hilltop area, after reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found Reid badly wounded. He was taken from the scene to a local hospital, but his injuries were too severe, and he died after the shooting.
The case began as a late-night street
shooting investigation, with Wilmington police working from the scene on North Harrison Street and later identifying Reid as the man who had been killed. The location placed the violence in a residential part of Wilmington where the sound of gunfire brought police, emergency response, and then a homicide investigation.
