The shooting happened at a residence on the 23000 block of Deep
Creek Drive in Lincoln. Delaware State Police said troopers were called there at about 6:48 a.m. for a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found Denise and a 20-year-old man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Troopers provided lifesaving aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. Denise was rushed to a trauma hospital in critical condition, while the 20-year-old man was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Investigators identified the suspect as 52-year-old Nicholas Mosley of Lincoln. Reports described him as Denise’s husband, and at least one local report said the 20-year-old man who was also shot was his stepson. Police said Nicholas fled the residence in a vehicle before troopers arrived, leaving behind the two wounded victims and other family members who had been inside the home. Three additional family members were reported to have been present during the shooting but were not physically injured.
Delaware State Police later located and arrested Nicholas Mosley. He was initially charged with first-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, aggravated menacing, three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person previously convicted of a violent felony, and endangering the welfare of a child. After Denise died from her injuries, state police said the case was being handled by the Homicide Unit and that updated charges were pending. Local coverage later reported that Nicholas Mosley was facing a murder charge connected to Denise’s death.
After his arrest, Nicholas Mosley was held at Sussex Correctional Institution.
