On July 18, 2002, 37-year-old Aaron M. Devoe was fatally shot at the Allen Pond Campground in Greene, Maine. The assailant, 31-year-old Anthony Vellaro, approached Devoe's campsite and shot him three times in the chest, resulting in Devoe's immediate death. Following the shooting, Vellaro fled the scene and was later found drowned in Allen Pond after a five-day search, leading authorities to classify the incident as a murder-suicide.
