In the quiet town of Newfane, Vermont, the long life of Blake Daniels Prescott M.D., a 91-year-old White male, came to a tragic end on October 25, 2024. Dr. Prescott was discovered deceased in his home on South Wardsboro Road. Alongside him was his wife of more than 70 years, 88-year-old Helen Prescott, who was also found deceased.
Authorities from the Vermont State Police responded to a call from relatives who had found the couple.
The subsequent investigation and autopsies were conducted by the Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Burlington. The medical examiner determined that Helen Prescott's death was a homicide resulting from gunshot wounds to the torso. Dr. Blake Prescott's death was ruled a suicide, caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.
In a statement released through the state police, the Prescott family described the couple as devoted to one another, having shared a lifetime of love and commitment. The family revealed that both had been experiencing precipitously declining health and "chose to die together as they'd lived together." The investigation by the Vermont State Police remains ongoing, though initial reports indicated it was an isolated incident and there was no threat to the public. Authorities have not identified any suspects, and no arrests have been made in connection with the deaths.
