In the late hours of a November evening in Alburgh, Vermont, a dispute that had been simmering over hunting rights boiled over into a fatal confrontation, leaving two men dead and another seriously wounded. Larry P. Cameron, a 41-year-old White male, was one of the men who lost his life on November 27, 2021, outside his home on Cameron Drive. The incident was the tragic culmination of a feud with David Mohamed, 51, also of Alburgh.
The conflict had reportedly been escalating for about a
week before the deadly encounter. Earlier that same evening, the disagreement turned physical in a fistfight between Mohamed and Larry Cameron's cousin, 27-year-old Devin Cameron, at the Dillenback Bay fishing access. Following the altercation, Larry and Devin Cameron returned to Larry's residence. Shortly after, Mohamed arrived, accompanied by two other men in a separate vehicle, intent on continuing the dispute.
In an attempt to get Mohamed to leave his property, Larry Cameron emerged from his garage with a 9mm handgun and fired several warning shots into the air. At this point, Devin Cameron, who was unarmed, stood beside the driver's door of Mohamed's truck while Mohamed remained inside. Mohamed then produced a. 308 rifle, and a struggle over the weapon ensued. During the chaotic exchange of gunfire that followed, Larry Cameron was struck once by a round from the rifle and died at the scene. David Mohamed was hit multiple times by shots from the handgun and also succumbed to his injuries. Devin Cameron sustained multiple gunshot wounds but survived.
The Vermont State Police launched an investigation into the shooting, and the deaths of both Larry Cameron and David Mohamed were ruled homicides by the state's chief medical examiner. The case was turned over to the Grand Isle County State's Attorney, Doug DiSabito, for review to determine if any charges would be filed. Despite the comprehensive investigation, online sources do not indicate that any arrests were made or charges were filed against any of the individuals involved in the incident. The case was ultimately reviewed, but no public announcements of pending charges against any suspect or suspects have been made.
