David Mohamed, a 51-year-old male, died on November 27, 2021, in Alburgh, Vermont, from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. His death was the culmination of a dispute with two other Alburgh men, Larry P. Cameron, 41, and his cousin, Devin Cameron, 27. The disagreement, which had been escalating for about a week, centered on access to a property for hunting.
On the evening of his death, the conflict turned violent when David Mohamed and Devin Cameron engaged in a fistfight at the
Dillanback Bay fishing access. Following the altercation, the Camerons returned to Larry Cameron's home on Cameron Drive. A short time later, David Mohamed, accompanied by two friends in a separate vehicle, drove to the residence.
At the Cameron home, Larry Cameron emerged from the garage with a 9mm handgun and fired several shots into the air in an attempt to make Mohamed leave. At this point, Devin Cameron, who was unarmed, was beside the driver's door of Mohamed's truck while Mohamed was seated inside. Mohamed then produced a. 308 rifle, and a struggle for the weapon ensued.
During the struggle, an exchange of gunfire occurred between the armed men. David Mohamed was struck multiple times by rounds from the handgun, and Larry P. Cameron was fatally shot once by the rifle. Devin Cameron also sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was hospitalized in critical condition.
The Vermont State Police investigated the incident, and autopsies confirmed that both David Mohamed and Larry P. Cameron died from gunshot wounds to the torso, with both deaths ruled as homicides. The complete investigation was turned over to the Grand Isle County State's Attorney, Doug DiSabito, to review the circumstances and determine whether any charges would be filed. As of late 2021, no one was in custody, and all individuals involved in the shooting had been accounted for. There have been no subsequent reports of any arrests or charges being filed in connection with the deaths.
