On April 3, 2021, 19-year-old Jonah Pandiani was fatally shot at the Quality Inn in Rutland, Vermont. The incident occurred when 18-year-old Kahliq Richardson, while under the influence of crack cocaine, was handling a firearm and shot Pandiani in the head, resulting in his immediate death.

Following the shooting, Richardson was charged with involuntary manslaughter. He pleaded not guilty and was released to his parents under specific conditions, including a curfew.
