On June 11, 2017, 37-year-old Matthew Muirhead was shot near the intersection of Broad and Sumter Streets in Providence, Rhode Island. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on June 22, 2017. This incident marked the city's third homicide of the year.
