On a Tuesday morning in June of 2018, the life of 57-year-old David Page, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire on Lowell Avenue in Providence, Rhode Island. Page was driving his vehicle and had just stopped to pick up a female acquaintance. As she was getting into the car, at least one individual opened fire, striking Page multiple times.
The female passenger was unharmed and was not considered a suspect in what police quickly determined to be a "targeted" attack.
The investigation into the senseless act of violence led authorities to two Providence men, Chandanoeuth Hay and Jaythan Hang. Investigators established that the defendants were associated with a local gang and had been conspiring to locate rival gang members on the night of the shooting. Just after midnight on June 26, Hay and Hang, riding in a stolen black Audi sedan with tinted windows, pulled alongside Page's vehicle. They fired at least nine shots from a. 22 caliber pistol, killing Page instantly. The two passengers in his car were not hit.
Following an extensive investigation by the Providence Police Department, both Hay and Hang were arrested and charged with the murder of David Page. In October 2022, after a 17-day jury trial, both men were found guilty of a slew of charges, including murder, conspiracy, and multiple firearm offenses. In February 2023, justice was served as both Chandanoeuth Hay and Jaythan Hang were sentenced to life in prison for their roles in the drive-by shooting that ended David Page's life. Hay, who was also deemed a habitual offender, received an additional 10-year sentence to be served consecutively.
