In the early morning hours of October 28, 2023, a tragic event unfolded on Hathaway Street in Providence, Rhode Island, resulting in the death of 29-year-old Hispanic male, Brian Fernandez. He was discovered inside a parked vehicle alongside his 30-year-old fiancée, Sreylakh Ros; both had been fatally shot. The couple leaves behind four children.
Initial responding officers from the Cranston Police Department quickly determined the scene was located just within the Providence city line,
turning the investigation over to the Providence Police Department. Sources close to the investigation have suggested that the shooting was a targeted "hit," with the shooter possibly having been inside the car with Fernandez and Ros. It was also noted that Brian Fernandez had a prior arrest record from 2020.
In connection with the double homicide, law enforcement officials apprehended 29-year-old Miguel Perez in a raid on a residence in Warwick. Providence Police Major David Lapatin confirmed that Perez had a known relationship with the victims, although the specific nature of their connection was not disclosed. During the same operation, another individual, 29-year-old Vathna Keo, was taken into custody on charges of carrying a pistol without a license and possession of a "ghost gun." Perez also faced charges of possession of narcotics with intent to deliver. The motive behind the killings remains under investigation.
