Nancy Kay Vickers, 59, a White/Caucasian woman, was found dead on September 23, 2014, in rural Custer County, South Dakota. Investigators from the Custer County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation that same day. Early information noted a fatal gunshot wound, and authorities said they were awaiting final autopsy results while indicating that no foul play was suspected.
When the investigation concluded, state officials announced that a Pennington County forensic pathologist determined the gunshot wound was self-inflicted and the death was ruled a suicide. The release identified her as a Summerset resident and confirmed the date and location details of the discovery in rural Custer County.
Because the death was ruled a suicide, there were no arrests, and authorities did not identify any suspects in connection with the case.
