In the small community of Yankton, South Dakota, the life of 26-year-old Jade Rembold was cut tragically short on November 6, 2022. A white female, Jade was born on March 29, 1996, and was a graduate of Yankton High School. Those who knew her remembered a beautiful, sweet, and goofy young woman with a big, beautiful smile. Her life was devoted to being the best mother she could be to her young son, Alvin.
On that Sunday in early November, Jade passed away unexpectedly at her residence.
What was initially a shock to the community would soon be revealed as a violent and tragic end to a young life. Authorities later confirmed that her death was a homicide. An investigation into the circumstances of her death determined that she had been involved in a violent altercation that resulted in fatal injuries. Specifically, it was determined that she died as a result of gun violence.
The investigation into her death quickly pointed to a person of interest. Surveillance footage and interviews with those close to Jade helped law enforcement piece together the events leading to her death. The focus of the investigation turned to her former boyfriend, Trevor Wayne Harrison of Yankton. He was later arrested in Dixon County, Nebraska, in connection with her death.
Following his arrest, Trevor Wayne Harrison was indicted for the shooting death of Jade Rembold. He eventually pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree manslaughter. For his role in her death, Harrison was sentenced to 85 years in prison, with 20 years of that sentence suspended. The investigation was a collaborative effort between the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and the Yankton Police Department. While the legal proceedings brought a measure of closure, the community was left to mourn the loss of a young mother in a case that highlighted the devastating impact of domestic violence.
