On September 14, 2022, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, 26-year-old Brianna Marie Mattix-Hatch was fatally shot in her apartment. Police responded to a call reporting an unknown problem, during which dispatchers heard someone yelling before the line disconnected. Upon arrival, officers were met by a five-year-old boy who informed them that a man had hurt a woman inside.
