On December 3, 1977, Birchard Sprick, a 52-year-old resident of Portland, Oregon, was found dead in his home at 7108 North Ivanhoe Street. A neighbor, who came by around 3:30 p.m. that day to ask for a ride to work, discovered Sprick's body in the front bedroom. Sprick had suffered multiple stab wounds, and his death was quickly classified as a homicide. Although there was no evidence of forced entry or any signs that his house had been ransacked, the case remains unsolved to this day.
