On August 17, 2021, 19-year-old Dillion Shane Montileaux-Trevino was fatally shot in his Sioux Falls, South Dakota, apartment, which he shared with his mother. The incident occurred after an argument with 18-year-old Asher Wayne Parks, who had been staying at their residence. Parks, reportedly homeless, was offered shelter by Montileaux-Trevino's mother.
