Police Officer William D. Montgomery, aged 24, was tragically killed in the line of duty on August 24, 1886, in Montgomery, Alabama. The incident occurred at the police headquarters, where Officer Montgomery was shot by a subject seeking revenge for being arrested earlier that evening for public intoxication.
