Officer John F. Suggs of the Montgomery Police Department in Alabama met his demise on Saturday, February 15, 1896. The cause of his death was gunfire.

On the day of the incident, Officer Suggs was attempting to arrest a man who had been accused of beating his wife. During the arrest, the situation escalated, and Officer Suggs was fatally shot. Despite the immediate response from other officers, the suspect managed to inflict the lethal wound.
