In the small town of Hayneville, Alabama, a dispute between two brothers on a September evening in 1908 escalated into a tragedy that would claim the life of Lowndes County Sheriff William Haynes. The 61-year-old male sheriff was called upon to intervene in a quarrel involving a local merchant who had been drinking.
