In the winter of 1915 in Anniston, Alabama, the life of Police Officer Clarence B. Kettles was tragically cut short in a violent confrontation. On Monday, February 1st, the 39-year-old officer was involved in a gunfight on West 10th Street. During the exchange of gunfire, Officer Kettles was fatally wounded. He was not the only officer to fall that day; his colleague, Officer Marion Screws, was also shot and killed in the same incident.
