On May 5, 2019, 23-year-old Courtney Devon Horton from Anniston, Alabama, was fatally shot in the parking lot of a Taco Bell on Quintard Avenue. Anniston Police reported that Horton was shot and later succumbed to his injuries. In response to this incident, the Anniston-Calhoun NAACP organized a rally at Zinn Park to address youth violence in the area, emphasizing the need for community involvement in preventing such tragedies.
