In the early evening of August 8, 2021, a dispute in Anniston, Alabama, turned fatal, claiming the life of 38-year-old Antonio D. Williams, a Black male. The events unfolded at approximately 7:00 PM at the Constantine Apartments located on Elm Street. Anniston Police Department officers were dispatched to the scene following reports of a possible gunshot victim.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Williams lying on the ground in a parking lot area, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services transported Williams to the Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center for treatment. Despite their efforts, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Investigators piecing together the events of that evening learned that a physical altercation had occurred between Williams and another individual just before the shooting.
The investigation quickly led to the identification of a suspect, 56-year-old Larryl Jerod Gaston of Anniston. It is alleged that following the physical confrontation, Gaston shot Williams. Investigators were able to locate Gaston later and took him into custody without incident. He was subsequently booked into the Calhoun County Jail.
Initially, Gaston was held on a homicide charge, but this was later upgraded to a murder charge. His bond was set at $60,000. The case marked the second homicide in Anniston within a month that stemmed from an argument escalating to a shooting.
