George Luther Berrey, a 45-year-old officer from the Montgomery Police Department, met his demise on October 19, 1919. He was fatally shot while attempting to arrest a suspect who had an outstanding burglary warrant. During the arrest attempt, the suspect fled, and in the ensuing confrontation, Officer Berrey was shot.
