The day after the shooting, on July 29, 2023, the Montgomery Police Department announced the arrests of two individuals in connection with the homicide. The suspects were identified as 20-year-old Melvin Watters and a 15-year-old male, both residents of Montgomery.
Following his arrest, Melvin Watters was charged with capital murder and was placed in the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
