In the summer of 1929, a profound sadness settled over a Birmingham, Alabama family. On July 9th, Leroy Pratt Percy, a 40-year-old male, died in the city where he was born. His death was a solitary act, a self-inflicted end to a life that had been marked by both familial connection and a history of deep-seated sorrow.
