On January 1, 2007, 34-year-old Lavaughn Fortune was fatally shot during a planned robbery at the King City Food Mart, located at the intersection of Warrior Road and Avenue P in the Belview Heights neighborhood of Birmingham, Alabama. The assailant ambushed Fortune, resulting in his death at the scene.
