On November 4, 2007, 51-year-old Howard Scott "Blue" Bernstein, a well-known musician in Birmingham, Alabama, was found fatally shot in his Chevrolet Tracker outside New Era Baptist Church on Cotton Avenue. Bernstein, originally from Atlanta, Georgia, was a graduate of the Berklee School of Music in Boston and had performed with the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section in the mid-1980s.
