In the early morning hours of Monday, July 23, 2007, a sense of loss befell a community as Rigo D. Garner Jr., a 20-year-old male from Lanham, Maryland, was found lifeless in Washington, D.C. The tragic discovery was made at approximately 6:20 a.m. in the 5300 block of E Street, Southeast, where Garner had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but it was too late to save the young man's life. The Metropolitan Police Department's Violent Crimes Branch promptly launched a homicide investigation into the circumstances surrounding Garner's untimely death. In an effort to bring those responsible to justice, the department has offered a substantial reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved in the shooting.
Rigo, who was survived by his son, parents, and numerous other family members and friends, was
remembered in a funeral service held on Saturday, July 28, 2007. Despite the passage of time, the case remains an open investigation. To date, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests made or suspects identified in connection with the homicide of Rigo Garner Jr. The police continue to appeal to the public for assistance, hoping that someone will come forward with the crucial information needed to solve the case and provide closure for a grieving family.
