On a summer day in Birmingham, Alabama, the life of 13-year-old Jerome McFarland was tragically cut short in a brutal act of violence that also claimed the lives of his mother, stepfather, and younger brother. The male teenager, along with his mother, Elizabeth McFarland Witherspoon, 34, his stepfather, Derrick Witherspoon, 37, and his 11-year-old brother, Justin McFarland, were found deceased in their Graselli Heights home on July 24, 2008.
