On October 19, 2021, 24-year-old Roderick Tavares Chester Jr. was fatally shot in Birmingham, Alabama. The incident occurred around 11:13 a.m. in the 6700 block of Kimberly Avenue. Chester was seated in the passenger seat of a vehicle when he was struck by gunfire. A woman and a child present in the vehicle sustained minor injuries from debris caused by the shooting. Chester was transported to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
