In the spring of 2025, the life of 27-year-old Letaris Demonds-Lapri Franklin was tragically cut short in Birmingham, Alabama. On the evening of April 9th, residents of an apartment complex on 29th Avenue North reported the sound of gunshots, prompting a police response. However, officers were unable to locate the source of the gunfire and departed the scene. The following day, April 10th, after being unable to make contact, concerned family members went to Letaris's apartment. Forcing their way inside, they made a devastating discovery; Letaris was found deceased, having been shot to death.
The Birmingham Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. Detectives worked for several months to piece together the events that led to Franklin's death. Their investigation culminated in September of the same year with the arrest of a suspect.
Authorities identified Tiveres Trayvon Nelson as the individual allegedly responsible for the death of Letaris Franklin. Nelson was subsequently charged with capital murder in connection with the shooting. Following his arrest, he was being held in federal custody in Talladega, Alabama, without bond. The arrest brought a measure of progress in a case that began with the chilling discovery by concerned loved ones.
