Philip Mahan Davis, a 33-year-old police officer, was fatally shot on December 3, 2009, while making a traffic stop on Interstate 65 near County Road 52 in Pelham, Alabama. The incident occurred at approximately 11:50 PM when, after Officer Davis had written a speeding citation and returned to the vehicle, the driver opened fire and fatally shot him.
