On New Year's Day 2014, the life of 18-year-old Kristin Danielle Fuller was tragically cut short. A recent graduate of Crenshaw Christian Academy and a student at Troy University, the young Caucasian female was attending a party at a residence on Campground Church Road, near the border of Crenshaw and Pike County, Alabama. In the early morning hours, around 4:20 a.m., Fuller, of Rutledge, was fatally shot.
The gathering was a New Year's Eve celebration that ended in violence and loss.
The investigation into Fuller's death quickly led to an arrest. Nineteen-year-old Taylor Stricklin Driggers of Brantley, also a student at Troy University and a former standout football player at Brantley High School, was taken into custody. Authorities indicated that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the shooting. Driggers was not a resident of the home where the incident occurred. He was initially charged with manslaughter and held in the Crenshaw County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
As the legal process unfolded, the charges against Driggers escalated. In August 2014, a grand jury indicted him on two counts of murder. His defense sought Youthful Offender status for him, which could have resulted in a more lenient sentence and sealed records, but this request was denied in January 2015. Ultimately, in November 2015, Driggers pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter. He received a 10-year split sentence, which required him to serve three years in prison, with the remaining seven years suspended. Kristin Danielle Fuller was survived by her parents and two brothers.
