On June 16, 2022, 84-year-old Jane Pounds was among three victims fatally shot during a potluck dinner at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. The event, known as the "Boomers Potluck," was intended for older parishioners. During the gathering, a 70-year-old man, identified as Robert Findlay Smith, who had previously attended church services, opened fire, resulting in the deaths of Pounds, Walter "Bart" Rainey, 84, and Sarah Yeager, 75.
