Randall Gene Young, a 51-year-old man from Morro Bay, was last seen on April 28, 2010, in San Luis Obispo County, California. He had embarked on a camping trip to Plaskett Creek Campground in the Los Padres National Forest and was expected to return a few days later. Concerns arose when he failed to come back by Sunday noon as anticipated, prompting a friend to check on him at the campground. Upon arrival, the friend discovered that all of Young's belongings were missing from the campsite.
Further investigation revealed Young's truck parked on Highway 1, south of the campground. The white kayak he had taken with him was also gone from his vehicle. Subsequently, the kayak was found on Sand Dollar Beach, containing four oars. An extensive search of the area was launched, involving the United States Coast Guard, but yielded no trace of Young. The Coast Guard deployed a 47-foot motor lifeboat from Morro Bay to conduct a shoreline search spanning 80 miles, along with an 87-foot cutter and two helicopters for aerial searches. Despite these efforts, the search was suspended pending any new developments.
At the time of his disappearance, Randall Gene Young was described as a white male, standing at 6 feet 2 inches to 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighing approximately 175 pounds. He had black hair and brown eyes. Notably, it was reported that shortly before his disappearance, Young had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. His case remains unsolved, and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Department continues to be the primary investigating agency.
