On May 2, 2014, 17-year-old Darius Jamal Adams of McIntosh, Alabama, was fatally shot by his father, Sexton Adams, at approximately 2 a.m. According to reports, Darius returned home exhibiting unusual and aggressive behavior, prompting his father to retrieve a .38 Special revolver in an attempt to scare him. Sexton Adams stated that he cocked the pistol, which then discharged accidentally, resulting in a fatal gunshot wound to Darius's stomach.
