On February 5, 2023, 34-year-old Devadney Sanchez "Pookie" Lauderdale was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the front yard of 189 Sherwood Drive, located in the Drew Court Housing Complex in Sylacauga, Alabama. Responding officers from the Sylacauga Police Department administered CPR before Lauderdale was transported to Coosa Valley Medical Center. He was subsequently airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, where he succumbed to his injuries on February 6, 2023.
