In the early evening hours of a February weekend, the sounds of gunshots shattered the peace in the Drew Court area of Sylacauga, Alabama. Responding to the reports, officers from the Sylacauga Police Department discovered a grim scene in the front yard of a residence on Sherwood Drive. There, they found 34-year-old Devadney Sanchez Lauderdale, a male resident of the city, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
First responders immediately administered CPR to Lauderdale, known
affectionately as 'Pookie' to his friends and family, before rushing him to the Coosa Valley Medical Center. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was subsequently airlifted to UAB Hospital for more advanced care. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Devadney Lauderdale succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on the morning of Monday, February 6, 2023.
The Sylacauga Police Department has since launched an ongoing investigation into Lauderdale's death, which has been classified as a homicide. To date, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in the shooting, and no arrests have been announced.
