In the early hours of May 4, 2024, what should have been a time of celebration turned into a tragedy for 18-year-old Delvin Tarver. A senior at Auburn High School with his whole life ahead of him, Tarver was just weeks away from his graduation. He found himself in the parking lot of a CVS on Baskin Street in Union Springs, Alabama, a gathering spot for attendees of the local high school's prom, though he was not a student there.
Shortly after midnight, gunfire erupted, and Tarver, who was inside an SUV, was struck by a bullet.
First responders arrived to find Tarver with a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was rushed to a hospital in Montgomery for medical attention, but tragically, his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced deceased. In the days and weeks that followed, the Union Springs Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide, seeking answers for a grieving family and a shocked community. Months later, a significant breakthrough was made in the case. On December 11, 2024, investigators arrested two suspects in connection with the fatal shooting. Freddie James Williams Jr., 22, and Anthony Jackson, 23, were taken into custody and subsequently charged with the murder of Delvin Tarver. Both men are being held without bond at the Bullock County Jail as the investigation continues.
