In the early morning hours of Saturday, October 26, 2024, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace in the 300 block of Waugh Street in Union Springs, Alabama. When the violence ceased, two young men, 19-year-old Adrian Dequon Tarver of Auburn and 19-year-old David Lamar Benton Jr. of Union Springs, lay dead. The incident, which occurred around 3 a.m., also left three other individuals wounded and in need of immediate medical care.
Emergency services responded to the chaotic scene, and the
three injured parties were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's State Bureau of Investigation was called in to take the lead on the death investigation at the request of the Union Springs Police Department.
As of late 2024, authorities had not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the double homicide that claimed the lives of the two teenagers.
