In the early morning hours of January 24, 2015, a grim discovery was made in the parking lot of Jody's Restaurant in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Twenty-five-year-old Gary Wayne Baskins, a white male, and 23-year-old Kayla Ann Glover were found shot to death. The call to emergency services came in around 2:20 a.m. Upon arrival, law enforcement found Baskins deceased in the passenger seat of a vehicle, while Glover's body was located outside the car in the parking lot.
Both had succumbed to gunshot wounds in what was investigated as a double homicide.
The investigation into the deaths of Baskins and Glover spanned several years, leaving their families waiting for answers. Friends of the victims reported seeing them together shortly before the shooting occurred. Baskins, who was known to his friends as 'Bean,' had a criminal history and had been released from prison about four months prior to his death. He was reportedly determined to turn his life around. Police initially had no motive or person of interest in the immediate aftermath of the killings.
Years after the incident, breaks in the case finally led to arrests. In January 2021, Shaun Michael Ryan was arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with the deaths of Baskins and Glover. Later, in August 2024, another man, Travis Eric Fallows, was indicted on four counts of capital murder for the deaths of Baskins, Glover, and Glover's unborn child. The charges against Fallows included one count of capital murder for the death of two or more persons and three individual counts of capital murder. Despite the arrests, the road to justice has been long for the families, marked by delayed trial dates.
