On May 14, 2015, 22-year-old Derrick Levon Dower Jr. of Selma, Alabama, was fatally shot during a robbery attempt in the Beloit-Orrville area. Raphael Miquel Clark, then 24, confessed to the Selma Police Department that he had killed Dower. Clark reported that Dower had entered his vehicle near Martin Luther King Street and Philpot Avenue, and during the drive, Dower fired a shot inside the vehicle.
