On January 13, 2016, 21-year-old Ashton Blake Roberts was fatally shot during a robbery at a Jack's Restaurant in Pleasant Grove, Alabama. Roberts, a resident of Sumiton, had recently begun working as a technician at a dealership in Jasper, where he was known for his dedication and passion for mechanics. He had also expressed a desire to serve in the Marines.
