On July 24, 2019, 30-year-old Neil Purush Kumar, a graduate student at Troy University, was fatally shot during a robbery at the J&S Buy Rite convenience store in Brundidge, Alabama, where he worked part-time as a clerk. Surveillance footage revealed that the suspect, dressed entirely in black, entered the store around 6 a.m., shortly after it opened. Despite Kumar's compliance with the assailant's demands, the suspect shot him at close range before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.
