On July 18, 2016, 19-year-old Vontrayvious Bennett was in the 900 block of King Street in Selma, Alabama, when the vehicle he was occupying came under gunfire. Bennett sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was transported by a private vehicle to Vaughan Regional Medical Center's emergency room. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later airlifted to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital. Despite medical efforts, Bennett succumbed to his injuries on July 23, 2016.
