In the summer of 2016, the life of 19-year-old Vontrayvious Bennett, a Black male, was cut short in a burst of gunfire on the streets of Selma, Alabama. On the evening of July 18th, Bennett was the victim of what law enforcement described as a gang-related drive-by shooting. The violent encounter left the young man dead and sent ripples of concern through the community.
