On January 5, 2022, 39-year-old Michael James "Itancan" White Plume Sr. was found shot to death inside a residence at 554 BIA 28 in Wounded Knee, South Dakota, on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Two other individuals, 38-year-old Alma Garneaux and 38-year-old Jamie Graham, were also discovered deceased at the scene. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Oglala Sioux Tribe’s Department of Public Safety launched a joint investigation into the triple homicide.
