Jaylen Whatley, a 19-year-old Black man, was killed late on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2023, in Selma, Alabama, when gunfire erupted along the 2400 block of North Church Street. Investigators later described it as more than a sudden burst of violence: court documents said he was ambushed, his vehicle struck by multiple rounds as the night closed in around him.
